Centesis Adapter (Automatic 3-way)

Unique one-way valve system for sterile aspiration

Item codes not ending in NB also include a 60mL syringe and a collection bag with a zip tie.

Indications for Use

The MILA Centesis Adapter is to be used in place of a 3-way stopcock during procedures

that require evacuation via a syringe and redirection of the aspirated fluid or gas.

Sets including a bag can be used to collect blood for autotransfusion.

Read through all steps before the procedure.

1.

Connect a syringe to the female hub on the centesis adapter. If necessary, add an extension set between the syringe and the centesis adapter.

Connect the male luer opposite the syringe to the collection bag or an extension to another collection vessel.

Connect the center male luer to the hub of the catheter. For funnel-hub catheters, use the included barbed adapter.

4.

Aspirate the fluid or gas through the catheter into the syringe.

5.

Depress the syringe plunger to transfer the fluid or gas into the collection vessel.

The internal valve will automatically redirect

the fluid to the collection line.

6. Repeat the process until the centesis procedure is complete and the desired amount of fluid or gas is collected.


If the centesis adapter and collection bag are to remain connected to the catheter for future evacuations, disconnect the syringe and cap the female luer with a stasis valve or other injection port. Ensure that the blue emptying port on the bag is closed. The zip tie can be used to secure the bag and collection line to the patient’s harness, etc.

Collection for Autotransfusion

  1. Ensure that aseptic technique is maintained throughout the collection procedure.
  2. Once the required amount of blood is collected, clamp the extension on the collection bag.

3. Twist the clear cap to break it off and spike the bag with a blood filter administration set.

4. Connect the administration set to the patient’s IV catheter and transfuse the blood per hospital protocol.
